2024 Annual Report

Dear Friends,

As I reflect on this past year, I’m filled with pride in the spirit, resilience, and success of our students, families, and communities. I’m also excited to share that the impact of our collective work is being recognized both close to home and nationally—from the U.S. Department of Education to the New York Times.

In this Annual Report, you’ll see the growth and achievements of CIS and our school communities during the 2023–24 school year. But behind every statistic is a story. Each number represents a student, a family, and a community working to overcome challenges that could have derailed their education and their hopes for the future.

I was honored to share some of these stories during a SXSW EDU panel with U.S. Department of Education Deputy Secretary Cindy Marten, school district leaders, and national partners. Together, we spoke about how addressing basic needs, nurturing mental health, and removing barriers helps create safe, supportive environments where students can thrive.

This work is more important than ever as schools across the country face an attendance crisis intensified by the pandemic. CIS has been partnering closely with schools to boost attendance, and our trusted relationships with families even led the New York Times to invite us to contribute to their feature, “Why School Absences Have ‘Exploded’ Almost Everywhere.”

CIS is known for being a safety net—and more. By bringing community partners and resources directly into schools, we’re able to create tailored solutions that help students and families feel seen, supported, and empowered to shape their own futures.

And how do we do all this? With you. Your generosity fuels our programs, and this year, you helped us raise more than $19 million for our All In For Kids campaign—establishing our permanent home and expanding strategic programming to serve even more students.

Thank you for believing in our mission and making this transformational work possible.

With a grateful heart,

Sharon Vigil
