Communities In Schools expands to serve San Marcos CISD

Austin, Texas – October 15, 2020 – Communities In Schools of Central Texas (CIS) is expanding to serve new schools in Central Texas and, for the first time, to serve San Marcos CISD. One full-time Communities In Schools Program Manager will work directly on each of five San Marcos CISD campuses: Crockett Elementary, Doris Miller Middle School, Owen Goodnight Middle School, San Marcos High School, and Travis Elementary School.

Communities In Schools provides on-campus support for students and families by connecting individually with students and creating a service plan based on their particular needs. Students may receive counseling, tutoring, mentoring, or access to basic needs items, all with the goal of helping them to succeed in school.

CIS Program Managers play a pivotal role working inside the school and coordinating and accessing resources from throughout the community for the students’ benefit. They work with school leadership and staff to connect students and families with what they need to address both academic and nonacademic needs, allowing students to show up healthy, safe, and prepared to learn.

“We are very proud to partner with San Marcos CISD and expand our services to new schools,” says Suki Steinhauser, Chief Executive Officer for Communities In Schools of Central Texas. “As our country and individual communities continue to struggle during this pandemic, we know that we must address the trauma students have experienced over the last months, must reengage students in learning, and must connect students and families with local resources like food, hygiene items and transportation.”
