CIS Story – Jonathon

Read Jonathon’s Story

Jonathon graduated from Travis High School in 2015. He became involved with the Communities In Schools XY-Zone program during his senior year and participated in service learning projects including Custodian Appreciation Day, Live In Peace Week, and Dawson Elementary Career Day.

He says that although he wishes he had learned about Communities In Schools and the XY-Zone earlier, he is grateful he was able to participate and benefit from the program in his last year of high school. He believes it helped him develop leadership skills and set goals.

Jonathon was able to demonstrate his leadership skills during volunteer activities including cleaning up a local cemetery and helping younger students with homework after school. He worked his way up to the highest level of the XY-Zone program in just one short school year. He was honored on May 13, 2015 as a Blue Shirt Member.

Jonathon is now working full-time in an accounting position in downtown Austin where he enjoys great company benefits and fun perks like trying out healthy snacks. Jonathon continues to give back as a volunteer for special Communities In Schools projects.
